We’ve enjoyed cozy holiday times with family and good friends during Christmas week. The sunrises and surf have been amazing, and we’ve appreciated our early morning walks before work. In the workshop, which happened to be surfing brains out, before and after work. So blessed and thanks to the big guy!

The first day of Winter brought fresh, healthy wind and rain
Winter if off to a good start; this morning brought healthy, strong winds and fresh rain. We celebrate the bluster, with white caps on the ocean . . . even inside the kelp . . . wind gusts that make the trees move, and intermittent rainbows in the dynamic sky. Beautiful Winter Solstice
We’ve had beautiful sunrises the last couple of days. Today is Winter Solstice, the shortest day, and the longest night of the year. Here’s to the Light! There are fun small waves and the water is 58-59. This morning we were at the beach waiting for the sun to come up. Here’s a photo from our morning cruise and walk. So blessed!

Walking with the Herons
Today the surf was a fun and clean 3-4, with overcast gray skies and occasional drizzle and light rain. Prior to the rain, I went down to Luscombs to take a few photos of two of our 75-77 year old charging friends that we love. The sky was so gray that there was very little color even on the faces of the waves. The purple cloud eventually caught up with us, and I had to cover the camera and head for the Jeep. I was stoked though, to have seen Mouse, Cossie and Doug catching the biggest waves together on their 9′ and 9’6 boards, sharing the waves smiling, Aloha style. This beautiful, but very gray day, had me yearning for some color, so here it is, Walking with the Herons. . .
On the November cycle of the moon, we had some beautiful minus tide evenings with clear skies, glassy conditions and tiny waves. I was happy to get the cameras out a few times to photograph the tide pools and life along the shore before dusk. I walked and stood quietly, so as not to disturb the elegant birds as they fished. ‘So blessed!

North Shore, Tribute to Eddie Aikau at Wiamea
Tuesday December 8, beautiful Wiamea Bay. Much respect goes to Eddie and the entire Aikau family.
Congratulations to Greg Long, on winning by scoring a perfect 100 with a late drop on a barreling wave in the second round. Other finalists were Kelly Slater, Sonny Garcia, and Bruce Irons. The Monster Drop award went to Chile’s Ramon Navarro, who also finished fifth in the event. He made a long backside drop into a huge wave that eventually closed out across the bay, and he was able to hold on through the white water to connect into the massive shorebreak. Both Greg Long and Ramon Navarro gave inspiring, humbled acceptance speeches. Beautiful! Many of the surfers rode trusted boards that they had ridden in previous Eddie events. For instance Eddie’s younger brother Clyde, now 60 years young, charged on a a sleek gun he has ridden in every Eddie event since 1999. And Kelly Slater was riding a favorite board that he’s ridden at Wiamea since 2002. With conditions like this, they wanted to be riding equipment that they trusted. Soul. Many friends were at Wiamea to celebrate Eddie’s legacy and enjoy the inspiring surfing.

Somewhere in Central Cali
Our friend Mike and his family traveled to Central Cali over Thanksgiving weekend and enjoyed family time, fun waves and beautiful scenery. They were kind enough to share these photos of Mike surfing Steve’s 7’0 Pendoflex diamond tail. Mike says “I needed every inch!” Whooo!
