Sea foam balls were flying this morning along the shore! Mother O was a sea of white, with sea birds, gulls, and pelicans soaring in the 45 mph wind gusts, with hail and rainbows to boot!

Magnificent Tuesday
We celebrated the gusty winds, pelting rain and strong storm energy of Monday. Tuesday began with a beautiful soft sunrise and rolling overhead waves, some out near the tee of the Ocean Beach pier, which is 1/2 mile long. As the day progressed there were wind gusts over 40 mph, which to us in San Diego is a weather event. Charged by the magnificent energy, we decided to take a lunch break from work to check out the blustery waves and have a sandwich from Poma’s. Here are a few photos from our morning surf check and lunch break cruise. Further south, we caught sight of a few waves cresting far beyond the kelp forest, close to a mile out to sea. We are all so blessed to enjoy the beautiful, vital Ocean. Aloha!

Tyler Warren flying on the Rubber Ducky, 54″ Pendoflex
Here’s some great shots that John Smart kindly sent of Tyler Warren ripping on the little Pendoflex 4’6″, from their upcoming film, The Tyler Warren Experiments. The frame grabs are courtesy of Mark Jeremias. Thank you John, Tyler and Mark for riding and sharing.
Steve made the little Pendoflex in 2007 as a family board that we could ride every way, paipo, kneeboard and standing up. The Pendoflex 4’6″ is inspired by the first fishes we rode standing up which were 4’6″ kneeboards at the time. He carved out the front of the board, much like a Greenough shell and glassed it up. Steve then applied the rubber ducky decky. The board originally has had 2-inch deep half moon fins, and after we rode it, we added glass to make the fins about 4-1/4-inches deep. This made a huge difference. We can surf, oh, boy! The 3/4-inch nose to tail channels help the wide little board with small fins grab with control when doing 360s, etc.

The warm high pressure weather in San Diego has been great for glassing Geppy fins for the gang, the work gets done quicker! And these were a rush for the gang in a hurry. . . dubble ups on the high pressure!!!!

On January 1, we took a longer sunrise walk than usual, taking time to appreciate the beauty of the small details as well as larger vistas. There was a light breeze and the pelicans enjoyed soaring above the waves. We hope you enjoy the photos.

Beautiful weather and fun surf conditions welcomed our Blue Moon New Year and new decade 2010. Once in a Blue Moon, two full moons occur in one month, as they did in on December 2 and December 31 2009.

The surfboard for the President of Liberia
One of our biggest honors and favorite projects for 2009 was building a board that was given as a gift to the President of Liberia, Madame President Johnson. Our amazing friend Pam works with Humanity United, an organization that is making an impact against mass violence, modern day slavery and other atrocities in third world countries, especially in Africa. Pam loves surfing and was inspired to give a special board commemorating Liberia to President Johnson as a gift. Steve shaped the board and we painted the Liberian flag and the Seal of Liberia on the deck, so the board could be displayed in President Johnson’s office.
