Hey, there! Today is Friday, Fin Friday, haha. Steve made two sets of handmade custom wood fins. The darker set will go on a kneeboard for DogMan, and the lighter set are for a Rubber Ducky that Steve is making. Both sets have unique custom templates and are double-foiled. The darker keels have an inside foil toward the back of the fins.
In between work, we enjoyed a break to catch a surf on this beautiful hot, sunny day . . . such a blessing. A special treat was seeing small shorebirds scurrying on the low tide reef, cormorants fishing in the line up, and a few dolphins cruising by in the clear blue.

Lately we’ve been helping a friend with his job while he is on an adventure in Indonesia. Last night we went to sleep smiling, because a new swell was on the way and the morning was going to be fun. It’s been a while since we’ve had nice weather and a long interval groundswell. We hope that you enjoy the photos from our early morning drive. Aloha and Cowa-flexit!

With San Diego’s close proximity to Mexico, we also revere El Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, where memories of those who have passed on are celebrated. Flash back to the time just after Clark foam closed, when good foam was scarce. Our friend’s shop in La Jolla had received some blanks from South Africa. I picked up a blank for Steve, trusting that it was true and fine. And, due to the times, it was the most expensive blank we’d bought to date! Steve was shocked when he checked it with his fine shaper’s eye. . . “Oh, look what we have here, Safari with a twist and with buckshot to boot!” With hopes of leveling the twist, he weighted the blank, but in the end, he decided to order another for his customer and shaped the new board. Awhile later using weights again, he straightened the blank as much as possible and then shaped a 7’10” speed egg Pendoflex. Years rolled by, and with the blank sitting on the rack in our painting studio, still with some twist. During our recent rainy weather, I was inspired to paint it. So Steve screened the yellowed foam to clean it up, used spackle to fill the buck shot and let me loose with the paint. Look out, here comes the Big Striper Bass, it took some time but here we go, tons of fun! . . . funny how art applies itself, from a potential throw away, to a treasured family art project.

Hello, there! Here’s Jeff with his new 9’1″ Pendoflex longboard, for points south. Steve shaped a beveled deck into this one. Jeff has a sternum that talks to him when he paddles, so Steve rounded out the deck to fit his chest, complete with a nice soft inlay.

Hello, there. We’ve had some much needed rain over the last few days. The sky has been constantly changing, with dark purple clouds moving in and out from the horizon, and rays of sparkling sunshine coming down in between the showers. Yesterday it rained steadily all day, very rare for Fall in San Diego. Studio bound all day, Steve and I decided to take a break from work and enjoy a picnic by the ocean. We picked up delicious sandwiches from Poma’s in OB and headed down to the sea. Our friend Jimmy found some fun little waves for his beautiful 6’10 Frye, and connected some long sections in the groundswell/wind swell. We were all smiles.
