Hi, there. We’ve enjoyed some water time in between work this week; the water is finally warmer and feels so good. Steve has Mr. K’s amazing 6’6″ Pendoflex Ducky Maximus hot-coated now, and this afternoon we’re having fun working on fin templates for his Ducky. We hope you have a great afternoon.

Hey, there! We enjoyed a beautiful and productive Saturday morning . . . it’s warmer, sunny and the water is pretty and clear today. Here are a couple of photos from this morning at Ocean Beach. Our friend Chris was the only one out early and he enjoyed some fun waves. And here are Mr. Livingstone and Steve with the sweet 5’11” quad fish that he is bringing home to his family soon. Hi, there. Steve shaped a gorgeous new Pendoflex Ulua for spring and we had fun drawing the template together. This swallowtail is 7’2″ x 2.625″ and will have a quad fin setup. . . dreaming of the color scheme for her now. She’s looking forward to the long interval southwest swells of the season to come. On Sunday March 27th 2011, World Champion surfer Jimmy Blears was laid to rest in the waters of Waikiki where he first saw the ocean as a young boy. Surfindian is doing a fundraiser for Japan earthquake relief this coming Saturday evening, April 2, 6-10 pm. There will be a live auction of surfboards and art, raffle, live music, food and drinks. The event is free to attend and donations are welcomed. Please come help us show the world that we care about our brothers and sisters, and their children, in Japan.
With love, we are honored to donate two matted and framed medium-format, silver halide print photographs. Skip graciously gave his blessing for us to donate a print of a portrait that I took of him drawing his wings, titled “Skip’s Wings.” He is drawing the wings on a personal 12-footer that is the 1200’th board that he has shaped at his current shop. The day we shot this photograph the surf was huge and Little Y, Indicator and La Jolla Cove were breaking. We enjoyed a wonderful visit and time with the photos. This photograph was published in The Surfer’s Path #79 in support of Andrew Smith‘s article about Skips’ longer boards “Expanding the Field, in the Connection Sector with Skip Frye.” The second piece is titled “Fishy Tree.” This photograph shows some of our favorite foam and balsa rides, Flipper, 6’10” Geppy fish Pendoflex; Leopard Spots, 6’10” chambered balsa high aspect fish built by Mike Casey, Steve and Cher; Firecracker, 5’4″ chambered balsa fish built by Mike Casey, Steve and Cher and 5’2″ Apricot Lis fish that Stevie built in 1970. This photograph was taken with thanks for the joy of riding the boards. Surfing is a gift and every wave is a prayer.

Rest in Peace, Jimmy Blears. Our prayers are with Jimmy, and all the family and friends. Today his ashes will be placed in the waters of Waikiki, where he first saw the sea as a little boy, at 10 AM at San Souci Beach.
We first met Jimmy when he was staying with our friend Mike prior to the San Diego World Contest in 1972. Jimmy was friendly and kind (and to me at 21 years), he seemed bigger than life. We were at the beach cheering him on in the finals and were so stoked when he won the World Contest riding Mike’s home made Fish. After the contest, Mike shaped Jimmy his own Fish and friends tell stories of him ripping, riding his Fish all around the island of Oahu. When we were on Oahu we visited with him when he was life guarding at Makaha and Sunset over the years. Jimmy was always friendly, gracious and kind and a great waterman. Hello, there. Steve built a beautiful Pendoflex swallowtail for Dr. Eddie . . . smiles all around. Eddie’s new swallowtail is 6′ long and 20.25″ wide. After he picked up his board, Steve and I enjoyed a sunny afternoon drive and walk along the hillside by the ocean. . . the cloud formations and spring flowers were beautiful on Friday. We are grateful to God for the blessings . . . peace, love and happiness.

Hello there, here are more pictures of the beautiful custom EPS Pendoflex Rubber Ducky that Steve just finished building for James. This little Ducky is 5’8″ long, 22-5/8″ wide and features a full length deck and special birch keels (with 90/10 foils) all hand made with care by Steve. Aloha and Cowa-flexit!
